Socceroos legend is determined to play in the Melbourne Derby after missing the club’s first pre-season fixture.
Melbourne Heart star Harry Kewell has vowed to win his fitness battle to be fit for the showdown with rivals Melbourne Victory on the A-League opening day.
John Aloisi’s side will start their A-League season by making the short trip to the Etihad Stadium for the Melbourne Derby on October 12 and it’s a fixture that Kewell is keen to be involved in having turned out for Victory in the 2011/12 campaign.
The 34-year-old was prevented from making his debut for Heart in their first pre-season match against Goulburn North East FA All Stars in Shepparton on Thursday night after Aloisi preferred not to run the risk of him suffering another injury setback.
But with the big kick-off less than three months away Kewell is hoping it will give him ample time to iron out his physical kinks after a warm welcome to the AAMI Park following his summer arrival.
“There’s 11 weeks and two days to go and counting,” he told Fox Sports.
“If I pass all their tests I will be (on track) and I’m passing at the moment. I’m looking forward to it, it’s going to be something special the first game.
“It’s been exciting, the players have welcomed me straight away which is nice _ it’s always good to come in to a positive dressing room.”
