Gerard Lopez claims that the Finn will remain with the team next season so long as they provide him with a championship winning car.
Lotus boss Gerard Lopez is confident that Kimi Raikkonen will stay with the team next year, as long as his team can provide of with a car that will keep him in the championship race.
The Finn will become a free agent at the end of the season, but Lopez told The Sun that he is confident that Kimi will be back next season.
“I am convinced – and I don’t say this lightly – that if Kimi gets what he wants from us in terms of performance and so on, we will see him moving forward with us. He knows that and he says that.”
Raikkonen has already won the Australian Grand Prix this year, and looks set to be a serious challenger to Sebastian Vettel for the Drivers Championship in 2013.
With Mark Webber and Felipe Massa also at the end of their contracts this season, Red Bull and Ferrari will be looking to sign the 2007 world champion to a long-term deal, despite already having two clear cut number one drivers on their books respectively already.
