The Business end of this season’s IPL has finally arrived and a couple of surprise results right towards the end of the league phase means that we are in for a cracking final four games of the season.
Table toppers from the league phase, Kings XI Punjab, will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders, who finished second with a last game heist, in a match that will determine the first finalist of the tournament.
While Punjab are the form team in the competition, KKR have proven to be a very difficult side to beat at home this season, and will even fancy their chances of upsetting the mighty Kings XI side in their home ground at the Eden Gardens.
The return to form of Kolkata’s T20 specialist Yusuf Pathan means that their batting now looks more of a threat than earlier in the tournament.
The Knight Riders’ variety in bowling though has always been their strength and the team management will turn to the likes of Sunil Narine, Shakib Al Hasan and possibly even lanky speedster Morne Morkel to weave their magic in the knockout rounds.
Punjab meanwhile, have looked the best rounded side in 2014 and although the spin aiding surface at the Eden Gardens could expose their pace heavy attack, the emergence of a couple of decent spinners in the form of Shivam Sharma, Akshar Patel and Karanveer Singh, gives them some depth in the slow bowling department as well.
The powerhouse batting of George Bailey’s side has always remained their strength though with the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Manan Vohra, Virender Sehwag, David Miller and Bailey himself ll in form and likely to tee off with the cushion of another play-off game available to them.
