Virat Kohli is RCB captain for the 2013 IPL season beginning 3 April.
Indian batsman Virat Kohli has taken over the Royal Challengers Bangalore captaincy from New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori.
Vettori led the side last year, before it was decided the side no longer needed a left-arm spinner and Vettori was left out. As a result Kohli took the reigns as stand-in and RCB have decided to stick with him this year.
“We are delighted to announce Virat as our captain,” RCB franchise owner Vijay Mallya said to Wisden India.
“His hunger to learn, lead, motivate and set an example is unquestionable.”
Kohli is a popular figure amongst RCB fans, having signed for the side after its inception in 2008. He is also the 11th highest run-scorer in IPL history and his second wicket partnership of 204 with Chris Gayle is the highest the competition has ever seen.
The 24-year-old will lead the Royal Challengers out for the first time this season on 4 April, when they take on Mumbai Indians at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.
