The Knight Riders will be hoping their poor form doesn’t continue after losing their last two IPL matches.
Kolkata Knight Riders will be wanting to get out of their blip quickly if they want any chance of making the play-offs in the 2013 IPL.
KKR’s opponents today are the solid Rajasthan Royals who have been something of a surprise package this season and look comfortable in third position in the table.
Most IPL experts would probably have predicted that these two sides would have had a reverse in fortunes to what the reality is, but in the current state Kolkata will be very lucky to defend their 2012 title.
The Knight Riders have lost four of their last five matches, which included a seven-wicket loss to tournament strugglers Delhi Daredevils in their last game.
Captain Gautam Gambhir was embarrassingly run-out without facing a single ball in that tie and as a whole the franchise failed as a batting unit.
The side have had some good performers this season as well, with Gambhir scoring well when he has faced deliveries and England’s Eoin Morgan looking sharp with the bat.
All-rounder Sunil Narine is also chasing Rajasthan bowler James Faulkner for the Purple Cap award for most wickets this season.
For the Royals Shane Watson has been the outstanding talent, with the Australian opener hitting the first century of the tournament and currently having scored 314 runs in seven innings.
