Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Miguel Olivo has allegedly bitten off part of team-mate Alex Guerrero’s ear in a fierce altercation on the bench during a Triple-A game for Albuquerque Isotopes against Salt Lake Bees.
The news was reported by Fox Sports journalist Jon Morosi:
Part of Alex Guerrero's ear was "displaced by a bite" during altercation with Miguel Olivo, according to Guerrero's agent, Scott Boras.

Alex Guerrero is having plastic surgery on his ear right now, Scott Boras said.

Guerrero's recovery timetable is uncertain, Boras said; not clear yet how many stitches the surgery will require.

The scrap between the two players was so bad that it resulted in the game being stopped for a spell, and widespread reports suggest that part of Guerrero’s ear was found on the ground in the dugout.
“We’re still looking into it,” said general manager Ned Colletti to MLB.com.
“We don’t condone it. I don’t think it’s constructive. There will be disagreements, but beyond that it goes over the line.”
It is far from the first biting incident to grace world sport in recent years.
Boxer Mike Tyson famously having took off part of Evander Holyfield’s ear in June 1997, and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic last season, having already performed a similar act while at Ajax by sinking his teeth into PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal’s shoulder in 2010.
Still, Olivo can certainly expect some disciplinary action – as too can Guerrero if his part in the fight is verified.
