Sevilla’s Rakitic is keen on a switch to west London rather than the north west.
Chelsea is the preferred destination for Sevilla star Ivan Rakitic rather than Liverpool or Manchester United, according to the Daily Express.
Manager Jose Maria Del Nido is hoping to tie the Croatia international to a new deal at the Spanish club however, but Rakitic is unsettled following a mass exodus this summer.
With Sevilla undergoing financial troubles the club were forced to sell stars Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo to Manchester City, whilst Geoffrey Kondogbia moved to AS Monaco and Gary Medel became Cardiff City’s club record signing.
Rakitic is very settled in Spain, but could leave for the Premier League if the offer is too good to refuse and whilst United and the Reds are keen, it’s the west London club that hold the most appeal to the 25-year-old.
It’s thought that a bid of around £13m would be enough to secure the midfielder – a relatively modest sum for a player considered to have been one of the best in the Spanish top tier this season.
In fact the Blues rank Rakitic as the fourth best in the division this term, behind Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona aces Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Jose Mourinho is looking into new faces in central midfield, with both Frank Lampard and Michael Essien in their twilight years and John Obi Mikel failing to impress.
The only star in the position that has done well this season is Ramires and Mourinho may look into making Rakitic the Brazilian’s partner in the middle of the park.
