Elche strengthen in bid to stay in Spain’s top division…
La Liga new boys Elche have announced the signing of Ruben Perez on a season long long from Atletico Madrid.
The La Liga minnows have done well to secure Perez, who impressed on loan last season at Betis. Betis were interested in taking the midfielder for a second year, as were Villareal, but the promise of first-team football helped Los Franvijerdes win the race for his signature.
Elche will play in La Liga for the first time since being relegated at the end of the 1980s, and have snapped up 24-year-old midfielder Perez in the hope that his influence will help the team stay in the league.
Elche have snapped up a number of loan signings already this summer, and secured Sevilla trio Manu Del Moral, Alberto Botia and Miroslav Stefanovic for this the coming season.
Perez will challenge Alberto Rivera, David Generelo and Sergio Mantecon for a starting place in the Elche midfield. The combative player has spent the last three seasons on loan, at Getafe, Deportivo and Betis, and will hope that his form this season generates a permanent move from Atletico Madrid.
