Darren Bent is set to join Fulham on a season long loan.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has confirmed that Darren Bent will join Fulham on a season-long loan.
“I Think it’s well-documented now that he’s down there having a medical and that is the last I’ve heard,” he said.
Bent, 29, was a record signing for Villa on his arrival at the club for £18 million, but spent much of last season on the bench for the Villans thanks to a hamstring injury and the excellent form of the young Belgian Christian Benteke. In his 23 appearances for the club last season Bent scored six goals, the last of which came against Wigan in the last league game of the season.
Fulham boss Martin Jol had played down claims by Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway that Bent, 29, was on his way to Craven Cottage.
“I’m not sure other managers should say that because we’re not 100% sure about any player.” said Jol.
On Holloway’s assertion that Bent’s move to Crystal Palace had been scuppered by Fulham’s approach, Jol added: “Maybe he’s right, maybe not. We will see in the next day or so.”
Holloway had earlier said: “Fulham could wait a lot longer than we could so we’ve tried to force it, they’ve stepped in, took our deal.
“I was told last night (Wednesday) he was coming to us. I was told this morning (Thursday) he was coming to us. It’s life.
“They (Fulham) are bigger sharks than us. My chairman’s going to have to get used to that.”
