Paul Lambert believes England will struggle to win a World Cup due to the players’ busy schedule…
Paul Lambert has revealed his belief that England will never win the World Cup until a winter break is introduced in the Premier League. The Aston Villa manager wants to allow players a recovery period mid-way through the season, similar to that seen in other major leagues.

Ahead of Villa’s game with Crystal Palace, Lambert was quoted by the Daily Express, saying: “I had it in Germany and it was fantastic. You shut down, everyone has a break and come back refreshed and ready for a massive push in the second half of the season. It’s brilliant for everybody.
“I guarantee you fans would enjoy it too. My point of view is that you will have a lot better quality in the second half of the season with a break.
“Could it affect World Cup chances? Yeah. It would help everybody, the national team, everything. Even when I played it was great.
“Spain and Italy do it for example and they have warmer climates than us, so I don’t understand why. When you go to a major tournament players haven’t even had a rest.
“People think footballers are superhuman but they’re normal guys. If you’re selling a product to millions of people you sell it when everybody is fresh.”
