Italian stopper leaves future in the hands of the club.
Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti has revealed he “knows nothing” about speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal this summer.
The Italian international had been on Confederations Cup duty with the Azzurri in Brazil last month, and is expected to go on holiday with his family ahead of pre-season training.
However, reports have claimed that Arsene Wenger has made an enquiry for the shot-stopper, while he is also closely monitoring Julio Cesar’s situation at QPR.
The French tactician is believed to be keen on adding another option between the sticks this summer according to reports, but it would appear that Marchetti will not be moving to England any time soon.
“I know nothing about Arsenal,” Marchetti told Sky Sport Italia as quoted by Sky Sports.
“I’m having a holiday and only thinking about relaxing. And then there is the president, who knows what to do.”
Marchetti joined the Biancocelesti back in 2011 from Cagliari, with Arsenal reportedly linked with signing him back then in a £5.5m deal.
However, having chosen the Italian capital he has since gone on to become one of the more consistent performers in Serie A, thus becoming a regular fixture in Cesare Prandelli’s Italy squad.
It remains to be seen whether Lazio president Claudio Lotito would be willing to entertain bids of Arsenal’s interest in the player were to be confirmed, but at this stage it seems unlikely that Marchetti will be leaving the Stadio Olimpico having established himself for both club and country.
