It is a sixth consecutive year that James has topped the list despite moving from the Miami Heat back to the Cavs last summer, with the rankings based on the overall retail sales on NBAStore.com since the beginning of this season.
James is joined by Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose in the top five, which is both expected and surprising in equal measure.
Curry has continued his ascent to becoming one of the top players in the league this year while Bryant and Durant remain popular regardless of their presence on the court.
However, despite Rose being out so often with injuries, it will certainly be a major boost and humbling news for him to know that he remains near the top of the list.
Meanwhile, the Bulls reclaim the top spot for the best-selling team merchandise for the first time since 2012, with the Cavs, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder following them in the top five.
While the off-court business aspect of the organisation is vitally important, all teams concerned will be desperate to ensure that they can match it with success on it as they all compete for a championship this year.
Bryant in particular will be hopeful next year as it will likely be his last shot at a championship while his name will not be featuring on the list for much longer in terms of active players.
