Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer has discussed the links to a possible transfer to Premier League table-toppers Liverpool this summer.
The Germany international, who has won 16 caps so far for his country, has earned the interest of Brendan Rodgers’ side following another season of consistent performances.
“Of course I look forward to hearing things like that and it’s nice when top clubs are interested in you,” the 26-year-old told WAZ.
“But I still have a contract with Borussia Dortmund until 2016 and I feel very, very good at BVB.”
Liverpool badly need to strengthen the left-back spot this summer, with Jose Enrique having missed virtually the whole season injured, and Jon Flanagan a natural right-back.
Schmelzer has Champions League experience, and could aid Liverpool’s title push next term if the Reds stump the required fee for his services.
