The Spanish defender has confirmed he has received a four-year contract offer from the Washington MLS side.
Spanish centre-back David Navarro, 33, confirmed whilst on air on radio station Cadena SER Valencia that he had received a four-year contract offer from MLS side Seattle Sounders. A move to the club would see him link up with former Levante teammate Obafemi Martins.
Whilst Navarro’s contract with Levante may stand until 2014, the club’s precarious financial situation combined with Navarro’s €17,000 per week salary certainly grants the Sounders some weight in negotiations.
Levante will still be loathe to let Navarro leave however, particularly due to his status as club captain and the recent departure of his defensive partner Sergio Ballesteros. Navarro played 43 games for Levante last season – 35 in La Liga and eight in the Europa League.
Sounders fans shouldn’t get too excited just yet though, as there is every chance that Navarro may try to use the strong interest from Seattle as leverage to negotiate one last big contract.
