Lack of speed the concern for Hamilton, as he believes car can not challenge Red Bull. After just one race of the Formula One season, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has ruled himself out of a title challenge.
After finishing fifth in Melbourne, Hamilton put in a good showing despite the car’s evident lack of speed, compared to that of Lotus, Ferrari and Red Bull.
He voiced that opinion during an interview couriermail.com, in which the English superstar officially ruled himself out the title running.
“At the moment, in terms of pure performance we don’t have the speed to compete for the world title,” Hamilton said
“I’m certainly thinking we could get one win, maybe more than one, but the other guys are going to make it as hard as they can that’s for sure.”
Mercedes have struggled since the re-brand from Brawn, and their situation does not seem to be changing any time soon. The team only had one win last season – Nico Rosberg in China – and if they are to get just a single win, they will need to rapidly improve.
Hamilton came to Mercedes to win the title, and he will definitely not be doing that this season. Questioning your team and car just one race could be poorly received, especially when you are still new to the team.
