Young Ivorian right-back Serge Aurier has responded to the rumours that he’s set for a summer transfer to Arsenal…
This year in France, the 21-year-old has excelled, scoring six and assisting six in 33 appearances, earning him a place in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year as a result.
“Arsenal? I do not know,” Le10sport.com quote the African as saying, when asked about an exciting potential summer move to the Emirates.
“It is an honor to have played this season. I will have time to think about all this but for now there is the World Cup.”
It was reported back in April that the Gunners had already started negotiations with Toulouse for Aurier’s signature, but the fullbacks latest quotes show that perhaps things are not as advanced as Arsenal fans previously were led to believe.
Rumours began to circulate earlier in the season, due to Aurier posting a picture of himself on Twitter with an Arsenal shirt on, before admitting he is a boyhood fan of Arsene Wenger’s side…
Could this be Sagna’s replacement at Arsenal? Serge Aurier. Apparently had initial talks already and is a Gooner. pic.twitter.com/aSxvXEyErh

Arsenal are desperate for a new right-back, as stalwart Frenchman Bacary Sagna is expected to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires. Sagna is rated as one of the Premier League’s best fullbacks, following consistently strong performances this season, so the Gunners will definitely need to replace him when the transfer windows opens.
Aurier shares many of Sagna’s defensive traits, but probably provides a more dynamic and physical attacking option up the right flank – as his goals this term prove.
He can also be deployed on the left of defence, meaning the rumoured £7m fee could eventually turn out to be a serious bargain.
Aurier has won seven caps for his country, and is expected to start for the Ivory Coast at this summer’s World Cup – where Arsenal fans may be able to get a closer look at their potential new defender.
