Both of Vonn’s parents were there to see their daughter triumph in the super-G, but the headlines were stolen by a surprise appearances from her golfer partner Woods.
The 39-year-old went unnoticed in the crowd as he wore a mask emblazoned with a skull and made his way to the front to congratulate his shocked girlfriend.
“It was an amazing surprise. I’m so happy that he’s here. … Everyone important to me is here – my mom and dad and my sister and Tiger – it’s pretty incredible,” Vonn was quoted by ESPN.
“I didn’t think it was going to get better than yesterday and today topped it.
“I knew it was him immediately. He loves that stupid mask.”
It was a big day for the 30-year-old, who trumped Annemarie Moser-Proell’s record of 62 World Cup wins – which she had held for a whopping 35 years before Vonn executed a brilliant run down the Olympia delle Tofane course.
However, it wasn’t all good news for Woods as during the rush of cameras to take pictures of his girlfriend on the podium he was hit in the face and lost one of his front teeth.
