Match of the Day host Gary Lineker wants David Beckham to join him on the nation’s favourite football show…
Match of the Day host Gary Lineker wants former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder, and England Legend David Beckham; to join him on the country’s flagship football programme.
Long-serving pundit Alan Hansen is leaving the show at the end of the season, and rumours are circulating over who will replace the former Liverpool defender.
“I’m retiring from Match of the Day at the end of the season. I will have been there for 22 years and will be 59, so it’s the right time for me,” said Hansen.
Lineker, one of England’s greatest ever strikers, would love recently retired Beckham to join him in the studio, but understands it’s pretty unlikely.
“I’d love to get David Beckham but I think he has made it pretty clear where his career lies!” Lineker is reporting as saying in the Mirror.
“With Alan about to retire, there is a space for the next big star of punditry — and hopefully we will find him.
“We are trying lots of different faces and might continue to mix it up more but who knows?”
Beckham retired from football in the summer following a short-term deal with French champions PSG.
