Adidas could help United to meet the huge financial demands of a move for Messi.
Manchester United could yet be set to make an astonishing move for Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi, report the Metro, with new sportswear sponsors Adidas potentially holding the financial key to the Red Devils being able to meet the Argentine international’s £200 million release clause.

Messi has been linked with some of the continent’s biggest clubs, including United, in recent weeks, after reports broke in Spain suggesting that he was unsettled with life at the Nou Camp and was failing to see eye-to-eye with new manager Luis Enrique, who only joined the club from Celta Vigo in the summer.
Barcelona are unlikely to entertain accepting any offers for Messi that fall below his huge £200m buyout clause, however, meaning that United would have to meet that huge financial demand if they were to land him – which is where Adidas’ influence could help the deal along.
The sportswear giants are starting their relationship with United next season and also sponsor Messi, meaning that they could be tempted to help sponsor the deal financially to allow two of their biggest assets to be brought together.
