With sponsorships from the likes of Adidas, Turkish Airlines and FIFA, it is reported the four-time Ballon D’Or winner took home almost £1 million every week, earning £47.8 million in the calendar year.
Trailing in his wake were Real Madrid player and World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo, earning a measly £39.7 million and Brazilian Neymar with a paltry £26.8 million.
In the Premier League Manchester United’s Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney topped the earnings table with £18.8 million and £16.5 million respectively. They were closely followed by Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.
In terms of managers, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was by far and away the highest paid (£13.2m) towering over Arsene Wenger (£8.3m), Louis van Gaal (£7.3m) and Andre Villas-Boas (£6.25m). Unbelievably, David Moyes took home £5.14 million during his season at Old Trafford, though now at Real Sociedad it’s unlikely he will be on similar terms.
