The Argentine chatted with Fabregas about heading to North London.
In perhaps the biggest shock of the 2014 summer transfer window so far it’s emerged that Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi spoke with Cesc Fabregas about a transfer to Arsenal, according to Vozpopuli.
Despite there never having been a realistic chance of the four-time Ballon d’Or winner ever leaving the Nou Camp, Messi ended the 2013/14 campaign somewhat disillusioned.
It was a disappointing season for Barca, in which they finished with no silverware after being knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Atletico Madrid and also being beaten by the same club to La Liga title.
Arch-rivals Real Madrid also overcame the Catalans in the Copa del Rey final and as a result Messi spoke to his then teammate Fabregas about what it was like playing for the Gunners.
The Argentina captain was curious about playing in the Premier League and in particular moving to London and becoming engrossed in the English capital.
Fabregas himself has since returned to the city, leaving Catalonia after three years to join Chelsea in a £30m deal this summer.
Yet for the North Londoners – who would understandably be interested in signing Messi – actually landing the South American would have been economically unrealistic as the 27-year-old has a €250m release clause.
