Lions harbour ambitions of being the first Singapore-based club since 1994 to triumph in the tournament.
Lions XII captain Shahril Ishak has warned his team-mates of the dangers of taking their opponents too lightly in the Malaysia Cup group stages.
The Malaysian Super League champions side’s path to the knock-out phase appears relatively straight forward after being drawn against domestic rivals Perak along with Malaysian Premier League clubs Kedah and Sarawak in Group D.
But skipper Shahril has urged his team-mates not to let complacency creep in as they aim fulfill their ambitions of becoming the first Singapore-based club in 19-years to lift the cup.
“There is no easy group in the competition and we must not be complacent, especially against the Malaysian Super League champions Sarawak,” he said to Goal.com
“Perak did well in the closing stages of the league and Kedah will want to do well too. We must be mentally prepared for this if we want to achieve something from this competition.”
