A thrilling encounter at Anfield has blown the title race open.
Watch highlights of Liverpool v Chelsea here.
Goals at the end of either half from Demba Ba and Willian gave Chelsea a win against Liverpool at Anfield that has blown the Premier League title race right open.
Ahead of the game Blues boss Jose Mourinho stated that a weakened side would be fielded from the visitors and many first team stars were rested.
Tomas Kalas was given his first league start against the Reds alongside Branislav Ivanovic at the back, whilst a midfield trio of John Obi Mikel, Nemanja Matic and Frank Lampard sent out a defensive message.
It worked too, as the hosts failed to have a single shot on target during the first half and just before the break Ba scored to add insult to injury.
The home side’s captain Steven Gerrard – who has been so instrumental in their positive form this season – slipped at the vital moment to allow the Senegal international in.
Brendan Rodgers’ men threw everything at it in the second half, but their calculated attacking play which has become a staple this term was abandoned for hit and rush football.
As time wore on the Merseysiders grew more frustrated, but credit has to be given to Mourinho’s side who kept their shape and plan perfectly.
Then in stoppage time the visitors broke on the counter-attack and former Red Fernando Torres laid it on for Willian to seal the three points.
It means just two points separate the two teams at the top of the table, whilst Manchester City are six points behind with two games in hand.
