Atletico Madrid is poised to pull the rug out from under Liverpool in a race for Villarreal’s Luciano Vietto and are expected to meet the £14.7 million release clause to land him.
According to IBTimes, the 21-year-old Argentinian Forward has been targeted by Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid but the latter will be the first to sign him after triggering his release clause.
Vietto impressed scouts this season after he recorded 20 goals for Villarreal – 12 in La Liga, 8 in Europa – in 47 total appearances. The young Forward’s agent, Jorge Cyterszpiler, confirmed for the IBTimes back in March that Liverpool and Real Madrid had interest in his client.
“We know that a lot of big clubs are watching Luciano Vietto,” Cyterszpiler said. “There is a lot of competition for him. He could sign for Liverpool, we know that he is admired by the Reds, as well as Real Madrid and two Bundesliga clubs. I think he could leave Villarreal in the summer.”
Vietto reportedly said that for €20 million he’d happily move to Atletico Madrid and reunite with Diego Simeone, who gave him his big break with Racing back in 2011.
