Brendan Rodgers leaves out £18m signing…
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has left £18m signing central defensive signing Mamadou Sakho out of his squad to face Swansea City this evening, reports the Independent.
Rodgers gave Sakho glowing reports of his performances in training, but the 23-year-old is not expected to even make the trip in tonight’s Premier League clash.
Instead, either Kolo Toure or Martin Skrtel will partner newly instated vice-captain Daniel Agger, with the player that misses out starting from the bench – meaning Sakho is surplus to requirements for this evening.
Liverpool fans will be disappointed, as they hoped to see the powerful Frenchman making his debut, as the club tries to maintain its 100% Premier League record.
Daniel Sturridge has bagged the winner in consecutive 1-0 victories over Stoke City, Aston Villa and Manchester United, and a similar scoreline will see the Reds leapfrog Arsenal and Tottenham to the top of the table.
Although the decision not to even put Sakho on the bench seems strange – Liverpool’s defensive record can’t be argues with. They haven’t conceded a goal in their opening three matches, although they will be without the injured Glen Johnson – who will likely be replaced by either Andre Wisdom or Martin Kelly.
