Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has agreed personal terms with Liverpool ahead of signing a one-year contract with the club, according to the Daily Express.
Manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to add competition for current No.1 Simon Mignolet, as backup Brad Jones is not providing that at the moment and views Valdes as the perfect acquisition.
The 32-year-old left the Nou Camp this summer after 12 years in the first team, during a boom period of sucess that saw the stopper win six La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and three Champions Leagues.
Valdes is yet to find a new club however, perhaps largley due to the fact that the Spaniard is currently sidelined and has been for some time due to a cruciate ligament injury.
Reports suggest it will be at least another month before the ‘keeper can return to first team action, but Rodgers would still like to bring the Spain international to Anfield.
The departure of Pepe Reina to Bayern Munich ended an era between the sticks for the Merseysiders and although the Northern Irishman has shown plenty of faith in Mignolet, others are not so sure about his capabilities.
The Belgium international signed from Sunderland for £9m in the summer of 2013 and although has had some good performances, has also been erratic and unreliable at times as well.
