Liverpool are reportedly hoping to re-sign Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid this summer after it has emerged that the midfielder could be available, according to Fichajes.net.
The Reds are continuing to scour the transfer market for midfielders despite already bringing in Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, with Alonso likely to be a popular choice to come in and enhance Brendan Rodgers’ options in that role.
The Spanish international spent five years at Anfield earlier in his career, scoring in their memorable Champions League final win over AC Milan in 2005, and becoming regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League during his time with the club.
Alonso has gone on to be as influential a performer for Real during his time with the club, though this summer’s purchase of Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich may be about to push the 32-year-old down in Carlo Ancelotti’s pecking order.
Liverpool now seem to be on alert for his signature, and could bring Alonso back to Merseyside in what would be an emotional return, but potentially a smart signing for the club as well as they look to add some creativity and quality, as well as experience and winning mentality to their squad.
