Chelsea and Liverpool could battle it out in the transfer market for Turkish winger Caner Erkin.
Premier League sides Chelsea and Liverpool are holding a significant interest in Fenerbahce winger Caner Erkin, who is out of contract this summer, reports the Metro.
The 25-year old’s agent has revealed that the English duo have reported their interest in the player, but the Metro reports that the Turkish winger’s agent may merely be looking to broker a bigger deal for him with Fenerbahce by sparking rumours of English interest. Media reports suggest that Erkin is keen on staying with the Turkish giants and that he wants to continue playing in his home country.
Erkin is primarily a left-winger who can also slot in as a left-back, which suits the needs of both Chelsea and Liverpool.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of wing-backs as opposed to defensive minded full-backs and might want to sign the Turkish international to bolster his side for next season.
Chelsea too are looking at numerous options to replace their 33-year old veteran Ashley Cole, but it remains to be seen whether they take their interest in the former CSKA Moscow man further.
Erkin’s agent was quoted saying about interest from the Premier League, “I don’t usually like giving names but it is great for the player’s confidence that clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea are showing an interest. However, a few clubs have made offers for Caner, two clubs from England have made a bid and he has also received offers from Spain and Italy. We have received offers but have not held direct talks with any club yet, first of all we are going to listen to Fenerbahce’s offer.”
