United currently have an opportunity to buy the 29-year-old for around £45m, but after his disappointing loan spell – where he’s earned £280,000 a week, and returned just four league goals – Louis van Gaal is expected to reject the chance to sign the Colombian, leaving the door open for one of their Premier League rivals to swoop in.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is preparing for next season by planning the departure of controversial striker Mario Balotelli. The £16m has failed to make the grade at Anfield, and has certainly not won fans over.
Meanwhile, league leaders Chelsea have suffered in the Champions League, due to an apparent lack of depth in their squad. Their attacking options in particular are severely limited, and the situation may only get worse, with Didier Drogba looking set to retire, and Loic Remy keen to find first-team football.
Despite Falcao’s shocking season damaging his price tag, it is expected that his parent club Monaco will still want an amount close to the £45m agreed with United, should a club want to take him permanently. But with neither club willing to offer that kind of money for a potential liability, it is much more likely that the forward could be back in England on another loan deal.
