Reports in the Daily Mail confirm Everton’s interest, as Roberto Martinez plans for the potential exit of Seamus Coleman, who is being chased by Chelsea, while Liverpool have been linked by the Daily Mirror.
Montoya has struggled for game time so far this season, and his agent Juan de Dios Carrasco has insisted that they will “100 per cent” leave the Camp Nou this winter. However, Enrique has made a last ditch bid to keep the 23-year-old Spaniard.
Enrique, speaking ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash with Espanyol, denied that he has given up on the home-grown talent: “I know Martin very well and it is difficult for me to rule out players and so imagine what it would be like for a player that I had with me in the youth team.”
“I have only words of praise for his effort and willingness. The situation can change in any moment and he is working hard for that to happen so all I can do is try to motivate him to keep doing what he is doing and make it difficult for his team mates.”
