Premier League duo eyeing move for centre-half but superclub Bayern are also in the hunt.
Liverpool and Manchester United face a battle to land Torino centre-half Angelo Ogbonna after Champions League finalists Bayern Munich entered the race for the Italian, reports talkSPORT.
Ogbonna, 24, was reportedly watched by Liverpool scouts during the 2-2 Serie A draw with Bologna last month, as the Reds search for a replacement for Jamie Carragher who will return at the end of this season and join the Sky Sports punditry team.
It was not the first time the Reds have sent officials to watch over the 24-year-old, who has made 18 appearances for the Serie A outfit so far this term.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are also tracking Ogbonna but both clubs could be trumped by Bayern Munich, who appear to be doing their summer shopping early ahead of the arrival of new boss Pep Guardiola.
Bayern are believed to have made preliminary enquiries for the player, while Ogbonna may have the option to remain in Italy, with AC Milan also said to be in the hunt.
Torino chairman Urbano Cairo has previously stated his unwillingness to sell the defender but a summer exit is looking increasingly likely.
