Benfica are yet to decide on the future of Nicolas Gaitan whilst Liverpool wait in the wings to potentially sign the winger later in the summer, reports talkSPORT.
The 26-year-old has attracted plenty of interest across Europe in recent years, and after reaching the final of the Europa League this season, his profile is as high as ever.
Liverpool have been continually linked with a move for the Argentine, whilst Manchester United have also been mentioned in the same context.
Gaitan’s agent, Jose Iribarren, has admitted that the future of his client is entirely in the hands of Benfica and they are yet to make clear what their intentions are.
“Future? We have talked to many people in recent years about Gaitan, but at the moment he is a Benfica player, and only the club can make a decision on the future of a player,” Iribarren told TMW.
“If we receive an offer we will evaluate it.”
The talented forward has made six appearances for the Argentina national team since his debut in 2009, although he has failed to make it into his country’s 23-man squad for the World Cup. He made 35 appearances for Benfica last season, scoring five goals in the process.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with a number of players in the attacking midfield role this summer. If neither were to move for the Argentinian at some stage over the transfer window, it would be something of a surprise.
