Impressive Toulouse star set for either Anfield or St James’ Park?
Liverpool and Newcastle United are both thought to be watching Toulouse forward Wissam Ben Yedder, who has been the sensation of Ligue 1 this season.
Of course, Zlatan Ibrahimovic might have something to say about that, but we would argue that given the fee paid for the great Swede, perhaps his performances so far for Paris Saint-Germain are to be expected.
Ben Yedder is far less of a household name though, and indeed has a background in futsal and five-a-side football – even playing for his country for the latter, and his impeccable technique comes from his background in those versions of the game.
The France U21 star has scored nine times in Ligue 1 for Toulouse in just 12 starts this season, and also has two assists to his name.
Despite a height of just 5’5″ (170cm), four of Ben Yedder’s goals have been headers, which illustrates both his excellent movement and his ability to find space in and around the box.
Newcastle United have found some wonderful gems in Ligue 1 in recent years, with Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa adapting to the Premier League with ease, and it is a recruitment model Liverpool would do well to emulate.
Ben Yedder was one of the players to receive a ban for going on a night out with the France U21s along with the likes of Yann M’Vila, but has shown considerable regret and has ambitions of breaking in to the full France squad.
Were it not for his current suspension, he might well already have done so.
