Sakho looks on the verge of signing at Anfield.
Liverpool appear to be finally closing in on a defensive target as the club agrees a £14.5m fee for Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Mamadou Sakho, according to L’Equipe.
The Reds have been keeping tabs on the France international for some time as the club continues to try and sure up their defence.
The retirement of Jamie Carragher, coupled with doubts over the qualities of Sebastien Coates has seen manager Brendan Rodgers look for alternatives – although free transfer Kolo Toure has significantly impressed.
Sakho has found getting into the PSG side tough of late, having failed to appear in any of the French champion’s four games so far this term.
This is due to the arrival of youngster Marquinhos from AS Roma, whilst Thiago Silva and Alex are also ahead in the line for a spot.
At 23-years-old the France international is understandably keen to be playing regularly and feels that the defender can’t achieve that at the Parc des Princes.
Therefore Rodgers is willing to give Sakho a get-out and a move to the Premier League, where it’s likely the Frenchman will be above Coates, Martin Skrtel and possibly Toure in the pecking order.
Sakho progressed through PSG’s youth ranks and since breaking into the first team in 2007 has made 197 appearances for the club in all competitions.
This has included picking up vital experience in both the Champions League and Europa League and to date the centre-back has 14 caps for the France national team.
Sakho will be the ideal choice for Liverpool due to the fact the defender can also operate at left-back – a troublesome area for the club in recent times.
