Top-flight giants Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all waiting to pounce on Aston Villa’s Belgium international should Paul Lambert’s side fall into the Championship come May time.
Relegation-threatened club are desperate to tie deadly striker Christian Benteke down to new a long-term deal at the end of the season, but only if they remain in the Premier League that is.

“It is easy to understand why Aston Villa head coach Paul Lambert is so keen for striker Christian Benteke to sign the contract that is currently on the table.
At the same time, it is no surprise that Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are each keeping close watch on proceedings, particularly with the club flirting with relegation from the Premier League for the first time in their history.”
Benteke has been arguably the revelation of the season so far, and his 15 strikes in only 29 Premier League games have virtually single-handedly kept the struggling Midlands outfit in the top flight.
His overall scoring rate of 68 goals in 191 matches in a six-year period is not quite as impressive, but perhaps illustrates just how well he adapted to English football.
However, it is more than simply goals that the Congo-born front man offers, as Benteke’s all-round game is also top class.
When coupled with his searing pace and the ability to score spectacular strikes against even the very best opposition, it is little surprise that there is set to be a battle to sign Benteke this summer.
