The Spaniard has been frozen out at the Nou Camp this season, and has made just one appearance despite the club insisting they want to keep him at the club.
This has prompted the 23-year-old to consider options away from Barcelona, with Liverpool and Arsenal believed to be leading the race for his signature.
“He is going to go in January and all that has to be done is to reach an agreement with Barcelona,” said Montoya’s agent Juan de Dios Carrasco.
“There are a number of clubs in England that are ready to negotiate for him and his buy-out clause is £16m.”
Barcelona would prefer to keep the right-back in January, with the La Liga giants unable to replace him as they are currently in the midst of a transfer ban debate with Fifa. If his release clause is met by one of the Premier League clubs however, they will be powerless to stop him from leaving.
