Reds keen to find long-term replacement for soon-to-be retired Jamie Carragher.
Liverpool are hoping to sign unsettled Manchester City defender Micah Richards at the end of the season, says the Daily Star.
The powerful England international has barely been seen at the Ethiad stadium all campaign after suffering a knee injury that required surgery last October, with the centre back only returning to first-team action earlier this month.
Richards, who has made just the three Premier League appearances all season for the top-flight champions, has a contract at Eastlands until 2015, with the 24-year-old expected to cost about £20 million this summer.
However, that steep asking price is not the only stumbling block to Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers being able to bring the highly-regarded England international to Anfield this summer, as the Northern Irishman is also set to face stiff competition for the player’s signature from the likes of both Arsenal and Serie A giants AC Milan.
But, Rodgers is hoping that the opportunity to play regular first-team football in his favoured centre-back position will help to persuade Richards to move to Merseyside ahead of the Emirates or San Siro.
