Liverpool have apparently submitted a £15.7m bid for out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.
The 25-year-old joined Los Blancos for £34m from Real Sociedad in 2013 but has only made 25 La Liga starts.
The indication from Spain is that he will not feature any more prominently under new manager Rafael Benitez, and Liverpool are believed to be ready to offer him the chance to revive his career.

The Metro cites Spanish publication Marca as reporting that the Reds have offered less than half of the fee that Madrid paid for the Spaniard, but that the bid was under consideration.
Brendan Rodgers is looking for a replacement for Steven Gerrard in midfield and seemingly views Illarramendi as the man who could fill the deep-lying playmaker role that his departed captain fulfilled towards the end of his time at Anfield.
