Midfield diamond – Lucas Leiva, Jordan Henderson, James Milner & Philippe Coutinho
Liverpool’s striking options mean that most virtual managers will want to play two up front, and therefore a diamond formation probably suits them best as it allows Coutinho – their top rated player at 84 – to play in his most natural CAM position.
This means no room for £29m signing Roberto Firmino, despite him being rated 82, or England regular Adam Lallana (80). Milner (80) and cover star Henderson (79) would be the two box-to-box midfielders, but Liverpool’s captain might find himself axed should gamers want to try a more adventurous system.
Lucas Leiva – both 79 overall and in defensive attributes – would be ahead of Emre Can, who is 75 but with better pace and shooting skills, in the pecking order to sit at the base of the midfield.
