Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is on the hunt for another left-footed centre-back and has zeroed in on Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen, reports the Daily Express.
The Northern Irish boss has Daniel Agger and Mamadou Sakho as left-centre-back options in his squad, and has already added a new defender to his side by completing the signing of 24-year old Southampton defender Dejan Lovren last night. Therefore, his interest in another defender is rather surprising, and one reckons that he might be looking at dumping some of his existing defenders rather soon.
Interest in Vermaelen means that Daniel Agger’s time at Anfield could soon come to an end as Rodgers has clearly indicated that he is not a big fan of the Dane by sidelining him for most of last season.
The Reds though face stiff competition from the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United for Vermaelen, and it is a transfer battle likely to go right down to the wire.
Arsenal are willing to sell their unsettled defender for £10 million, which has kept all the 3 big clubs in the hunt this summer.
