Mirror Online say the England international informed the Kop boss that he wanted out of Anfield in a face-to-face meeting before the Reds 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on May 10th.
It’s believe the club will make a last ditch attempt to convince him to stay over the coming days and perhaps encouragingly Sterling has agreed to talks.
However, despite two years left on Sterling’s current Liverpool deal, he has so far rejected a £90,000-a-week, five-year contract amid fears the club will not be able to challenge for major honours, and their predicament this season has done little to help this.
It’s claimed the 20-year-old is incredibly upset at the clubs inability to qualify for next years’ Champions League, a situation confirmed after their 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Saturday in what was Steven Gerrard’s last game at the club.
The Mirror say Man City are keeping a close eye on the situation and could be about to make a concrete offer.
