The Reds’ skipper has agreed a move to La Galaxy, which will go through in the summer. With the 34-year-old having been a major part of the club’s fabric for the past 17 years, there have been some doubts over whether the the Merseyside team’s ability to cope with him leaving.
They were dumped out of the Europa League by Besiktas on Thursday with the former England international not in the side.
However, Rodgers thinks the young talents in his team will step to fill the void. It may have helped that Gerrard’s influence has waned in recent years, he has only managed one assist this season. On the other hand his goals will need to be replaced, having already netted ten times in this campaign.
The Northern Irishman said: “Steven is still a big influence in big games. But by the same token, you have to prepare the team going forward. It is clear, if you look around the squad, there are a lot of young exciting talents. Stevie’s still a wonderful player but we have a lot of young talented players who want to step up to the mark.”
