The England international gave a revealing interview to the BBC yesterday, suggesting that he is not looking for a financially lucrative contract – after receiving criticism for rejecting a deal worth £100,000 a week – but is striving to play somewhere he will win trophies and be successful.
According to the Times’ Tony Barrett, Rodgers said that if Sterling is looking to win silverware, he is already at the right club, as they share the same goals.
Rodgers: “If his ambition is trophies, that’s perfectly aligned with what we want. This is Liverpool. It’s an honour for him to be here.”

The winger has been linked with Premier League rivals Arsenal, but as Barrett revealed, Rodgers believes that the 20-year-old is currently at one of the world’s biggest clubs, and reminded him how far he has come since he joined the Reds from Queens Park Rangers five years ago.
