Liverpool kicked off its Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Stoke City at the Britannia on Sunday.
Reds manager Brendan Rodgers was pleased with his team’s solid start, and he praised an intangible aspect of his team’s performance.
“We showed great character and determination as a team and our quality came through,” Rodgers said, according to the Daily Star.
A stunning long-range strike from Reds midfielder Philippe Coutinho was the difference, with the Brazilian’s swerving effort with just four minutes remaining proving to be the winner.
It was sweet revenge for Liverpool who suffered a 6-1 defeat to the hands of Stoke in the corresponding fixture last season.
It seems like Liverpool have strengthened defensively, as Nathaniel Clyne made a full debut while helping lead his team to a clean sheet.
The Reds will have gained plenty of confidence from the result and will take on newcomers Bournemouth at Anfield next week.
