Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is on Juventus’ transfer shortlist this summer, but despite a €30m budget, the Serie A giants may struggle to lure him away.
Liverpool forward Luis Suarez is amongst striker options at the top of Juventus’ summer transfer shortlist, as the Turin giants bid to build on their highly successful season, according to TuttoSport.
Antonio Conte led his side to their second Scudetto in a row, as well as the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they were defeated 5-0 on aggregate by eventual finalists Bayern Munich.
Because Juve practically coasted to the Serie A title but were comfortably outclassed in Europe, the Bianconeri’s hierarchy seems to realise there is work to be done.
“We’ll think of combining our financial resources with our ideas,” said club CEO Beppe Marotta.
“The world’s expectations are very high, and the bar has been raised.”
Marotta went on to add that the club needed to manage those expectations well, and that the board would meet with Conte in the coming weeks to discuss budget and targets, though TuttoSport claim that is likely to be around €30m plus any profits from player sales.
Luis Suarez of Liverpool is certainly amongst those, with the furore surrounding his bite on Branislav Ivanovic and subsequent ban having led him to reportedly reconsider his future in England.
However, it is Bayern Munich who have been particularly linked as the Uruguay international and incoming boss Pep Guardiola share the same agent – the manager’s brother Pere Guardiola.
Liverpool received a boost over the weekend when Suarez committed his future to the club next season, and so Juventus may find it difficult to lure away the Reds’ prize asset.
“I have a deal with Liverpool and this is my present – and future,” said Suarez.
Juve may have to look at alternative options such as Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain, Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic, PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and FC Barcelona wide forward Alexis Sanchez.
