With the Liverpool captain having recently retired from international duty with England to focus on Liverpool, he claims he would have been happy to sign a new contract over the summer. The club never offered him a new deal however, and Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers has since spoken to Gerrard about limiting his game time.
“Yes, if a contract had been put in front of me in pre-season I would have signed it,” he said.
“I’d just retired from England to concentrate all my efforts on Liverpool. I didn’t want my club games to be tailored.”
The 34-year-old has no intention of becoming a bit part player at the club, and knows things will only get worse next season.
