Liverpool could invest in more talented teenagers come January…
Liverpool are interested in Lazio’s 18-year-old striker Keita Balde Diao, reports Italian publication Mercato365.
The youngster used to play for Barcelona’s youth sides, and was a promising member of La Masia academy – until the Serie A giants snapped him up in 2011 when he was just 16-years-old.
The Spanish born Senegalese striker has developed so quickly at Lazio he has earned himself a debut for Lazio in Italy’s top league this season, as well as the Europa League, and Liverpool have sent scouts to watch both matches.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has regularly given youngsters a chance since taking the reigns at Anfield, and with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez the only out and out centre-forward options at his disposal, Diao could be thrust into action sooner than he would expect.
Players like Andre Wisdom, Jerome Sinclair, Suso, Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe have all made their debuts under the Northern Irish boss, who isn’t afraid of testing talented young footballers in his first team.
If a deal materialises, Reds fans will hope the youngster enjoys a more fruitful spell at Anfield than his namesake Salif Diao, who goes down as one of Liverpool’s worst midfielders of the past decade!
