Kovacic has been heavily linked to the Reds over recent months, and Metro reports the Premier League side are inching closer to an agreement with Inter over the Croatian youngster.
Inter initially valued the 21-year-old at £22m, however reports suggest the Nerazzurri are willing to sell the former Dinamo Zagreb ace for around £17m.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is believed to be an avid fan of Kovacic and there’s no doubt the versatile midfielder would significantly heighten Liverpool’s chances of a top-four finish next season.
Inter manager Roberto Mancini will surely be unwilling to allow one of Europe’s best young talents leave the club, however the cash-strapped side may not be able to turn down such a transfer fee.
Frustrated Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel was on Wednesday linked to Inter as part of a swap deal for Kovacic, however it is not known whether the £17m fee would drop should the Slovakian head to the San Siro.
