Liverpool to offer deal to Croatian midfielder after Inter Milan let him go
The 23-year-old Brazilian striker has played his five seasons with Hoffenheim, and a transfer deal with Liverpool is close to becoming official, according to a Metro report.
Firmino is currently being viewed as a replacement for disgruntled midfielder and striker Raheem Sterling, who is receiving a £50m bid from Manchester City.
The Brazil international would be ideal for Liverpool since he would bring young blood to the team that is hard to replace, assuming Sterling leaves.
Sterling is only 20 years old but is one of the rising stars in the Premier League. Like Sterling, Firmino scored seven goals in the 2014-15 season.
The Reds are expected to fork over £15m in their transfer deal for Firmino, and they will have beaten out Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea for his services.
Although a deal still has yet to be made official, Metro reports that Liverpool insider Tony Evans confirmed the team’s interest in Firmino.
