Liverpool are apparently willing to sacrifice vice-captain Daniel Agger in a swap deal that will see them bring in Napoli midfield ace Gokhan Inler, reports the Metro.
Following the injury to Brazilian anchorman Lucas, Liverpool are in desperate need for midfield reinforcements with only four days left until the transfer window closes.
Inler is a 29-year-old holding midfielder, and has been an ever present for Napoli this season. he prides himself on his ability to break up opposition play, and provide his side with a solid defensive platform.
Rafa Benitez, the Napoli boss, is a fan of his Swiss midfielder, but could be willing to let him move to Anfield if he gets Agger in return. Benitez brought Agger to Liverpool back in 2006, and is known to rate him extremely highly.
Despite injuries at the moment to Agger and Mamadou Sakho, Liverpool do have options at centre-half, with the likes of Kolo Toure and Martin Skrtel also competing for starting spots.
As a result, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers may recognise the necessity to bring in a midfielder, and offer Agger to sweeten the deal. The Danish defender is a fans’ favourite at Anfield however, and supporters would be far happier if Liverpool could bring Inler in without offloading the tattooed centre-back.
